2008 Meeting

Western Stewardship Summit: Restoring Community and the Land

24-26 September 2008, Sunriver, OR

The Summit was sponsored by The Nature Conservancy in collaboration with Sustainable Northwest, American Lands Alliance, Lake County Resources Initiative, Resource Innovations, Wallowa Resources, Watershed Research & Training Center and Wildlands CPR. Over 250 practitioners, managers and leaders attended the Summit.

Sessions covered a wide range of topics, including forest restoration techniques and approaches, processes for effective collaboration, stewardship contracting tools, interactions between terrestrial and aquatic restoration, and accessing capital for restoration and stewardship. Electronic copies of posters and presentations will be posted to the Summit Web site to encourage continuing conversations and learning.

2007 Meeting

7-9 March 2007, Tucson, AZ

The major themes of this meeting were (1) funding for landscape-level projects and (2) policy-related needs.

Special sessions provided tips on: raising private and public funding for landscape activities, communicating about the successes of your project, collaboration, and administering government grants.

2006 Meeting

The 2006 national USFLN meeting was held 29-30 March in Portland, Oregon. The meeting was held in conjunction with the U.S. National Interagency Fuels Group and the International Association of Wildland Fire.

2005 Meeting

The 2005 national USFLN meeting was held 8-10 February in New Bern, North Carolina. The theme of the meeting was "Putting it All Together — Accelerants for Success." Participants learned about innovative tools and new approaches to collaborative fire regime restoration.

The meeting included plenary talks on education, training and public policy; regional work sessions; and a full-day field trip to the Croatan National Forest.
